As a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer I taught for three years in Kenya (1983-1986). The term mwalimu was a Swahili word, which translates into teacher. In East Africa this term was used to show great respect. Today I am proud to be a mwalimu wa walimu (a teacher of teachers). I strive to help produce the best teachers for our children.
