Current Virus Update
(Windows)
5583
(4/13/09)
7.1.x & 8.5.0i software
With the recent Virus attacks we thought it was time to remind users
of Anti-Virus best practices.
Have properly installed, configured and updated AntiVirus software
on all computers. ASU
provides AntiVirus software free to all Students, Faculty and Staff,
in addition to general information on computer security.
Subscribe
to ASU's Antivirus List.
The Antivirus announcement list (fyi.IT.antivirus) provides information
on new releases and updates to the ASU-supported anti-virus software.
This announcement service will also send notification about virus warnings
and emergency virus patches.
Do not open E-Mail attachments that you are not expecting, even
from someone you know. This is how most Viruses spread. If you receive an attachment from
someone you know send them an E-Mail asking them if they sent it and
what it is, to make sure it is a valid attachment.
If you receive a warning E-Mail that you sent out an E-Mail with
a virus, and you have not sent out any email, please ignore and delete
the warning E-Mail.
Currently Viruses spoof the from address on the E-Mails by making
it look like it came from someone in the infected users address book.
If you do not know the recipient and did not send out an E-Mail you can
delete the warning.
What's your Windows version? Right-click the shield
(it will say "VShield" for 4.5.1 users, or "VirusScan On-Access
Scan is enabled" for 7.0, or "McAfee OAS: Enabled" for 8.5i users
if you hold your cursor over it) in the lower-right corner of your screen and
select 'About...'. If you don't see the current version listed there under
'Virus definitions' - get
it!
