Shari Collins-Chobanian, received her Ph.D. in Philosophy in 1994 from Washington University in St. Louis. She was awarded the Dean’s Dissertation Fellowship in her last year. Collins-Chobanian received her B.A. in Sociology, with minors in Political Science, Criminal Justice, and Philosophy from Colorado State University in 1983. She then briefly attended Northwestern School of Law from 1983-84, and received her Secondary Education Teaching Certification in Social Studies from Portland State University in 1987. Collins-Chobanian is an Associate Professor of Philosophy in the Department of Integrative Studies, and an affiliated professor in the Ethnic Studies program at Arizona State University West. Collins-Chobanian is included in the forthcoming International Biographical Centre’s 2000 Outstanding Academics of the 21st Century.

She is the co-editor of all (currently four) editions of Applied Ethics: A Multicultural Approach, a bestseller now in its fourth edition, and the first text of its kind in the field of applied ethics; and editor of Ethical Challenges to Business as Usual, forthcoming, both with Prentice Hall. Collins-Chobanian has published on environmental rights, her original idea of environmental labels, as well as in the area of environmental racism as it impacts American Indians.

Her research areas include environmental ethics, especially environmental racism, environmental justice, environmental rights, and sustainable agriculture; business ethics,especially regarding consumer labeling
and transgenic biotechnology; and discrimination in the criminal justice system. She has been an invited peer reviewer of a joint Ford Foundation/NEH grant concerning Chicano farms in Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico; an invited commentator at a legal conference on American Indians and genetic research; and has reviewed books for the international journal, Environmental Ethics, specializing in the area of environmental justice/environmental racism. In addition, she teaches courses from Introduction to Philosophy 101 to MAS 511, a graduate course in philosophy of technology, specializing in environmental ethics, and business ethics. She developed the first environmental ethics course at ASU West. At ASU West she has served as Interim Director of Ethnic Studies, and is currently the Chair of the Department of Integrative Studies.
