Code of Cooperation

Purpose

To establish ground rules/group norms and guidelines that will guide the team as they work together toward a common purpose.

Guidelines

The team should develop and reach consensus on the Code of Cooperation. Each member should receive a copy and if possible, a copy should be posted at all team meetings. Team members agree to maintain the standards set forth in the Code.

Possible areas to be covered in the Code of Cooperation include: attendance; promptness; meeting place and time; participation; basic conversational courtesies; assignments; interruptions; rotation of routine chores; agenda, minutes and records.

Sample Code of Cooperation
  • Every member is responsible for the team's progress.
  • Attend all sessions and be on time.
  • Come prepared.
  • Listen to and show respect for the views of other members -- be an active listener.
  • Be creative.
  • Judge ideas, not people.
  • Ask questions when you do not understand.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive issues.
  • Always strive for win-win situations.
  • No rank in the room.
